Narrative:
The before takeoff checklist was called for by the captain. The first officer notified the flight attendant, 'please prepare for takeoff.' knowing a flow time existed, the captain notified the tower 'ready and holding short.' tower gave a hold short clearance and captain responded 'hold short' and set parking brake. The first officer completed the before takeoff checklist to the line. Tower simultaneously gave a takeoff clearance while the flight attendants distracted us with a 'cabin secured' call. We then proceeded on the runway and heard a cessna aircraft that was next to us in the run-up area say, 'we have EMB120 in sight.' we throttled up the aircraft and heard nothing else until approximately 1000 ft AGL on the upwind. Tower then informed us that we had no takeoff clearance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN EMB120 FLT PERFORMS AN UNAUTH TKOF AFTER HOLDING SHORT OF THE RWY WITH A CESSNA TYPE ACFT AT CRQ, CA.
Narrative: THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST WAS CALLED FOR BY THE CAPT. THE FO NOTIFIED THE FLT ATTENDANT, 'PLEASE PREPARE FOR TKOF.' KNOWING A FLOW TIME EXISTED, THE CAPT NOTIFIED THE TWR 'READY AND HOLDING SHORT.' TWR GAVE A HOLD SHORT CLRNC AND CAPT RESPONDED 'HOLD SHORT' AND SET PARKING BRAKE. THE FO COMPLETED THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST TO THE LINE. TWR SIMULTANEOUSLY GAVE A TKOF CLRNC WHILE THE FLT ATTENDANTS DISTRACTED US WITH A 'CABIN SECURED' CALL. WE THEN PROCEEDED ON THE RWY AND HEARD A CESSNA ACFT THAT WAS NEXT TO US IN THE RUN-UP AREA SAY, 'WE HAVE EMB120 IN SIGHT.' WE THROTTLED UP THE ACFT AND HEARD NOTHING ELSE UNTIL APPROX 1000 FT AGL ON THE UPWIND. TWR THEN INFORMED US THAT WE HAD NO TKOF CLRNC.
