Narrative:
I reported to greenwood tower that I was 10 NM north inbound. I was cleared to land runway 18. At 4 mi final, I heard flight of 2 bonanza's report right downwind. At 2 1/2 - 3 mi final, bonanzas reported right base. Tower cleared the bonanzas to land. I then made a report to tower that I was on 2 mi final (to remind him of me). After a pause, tower issued traffic to me. I reported 'I was looking for traffic.' about 1 min later, I head a rumbling and looked up and saw the right wing of one of the bonanzas passing over me from right to left with gear down, 30-40 ft above and slightly ahead. I then dropped down to about 200 ft AGL and .7 mi from runway. Factors: a formation flight clinic was being held at airport at time. Controller had forgotten about me after clearing me to land, when I was still 5-6 mins from touchdown. Controller took no action to correct situation allowing near midair collision to occur. Tower is city owned and operated. Haze made it difficult for pilots to see each other.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: GA PLT IS INVOLVED IN AN NMAC WITH A BE35 ON SHORT FINAL TO GWO AFTER BOTH ACFT WERE CLRED TO LAND.
Narrative: I RPTED TO GREENWOOD TWR THAT I WAS 10 NM N INBOUND. I WAS CLRED TO LAND RWY 18. AT 4 MI FINAL, I HEARD FLT OF 2 BONANZA'S RPT R DOWNWIND. AT 2 1/2 - 3 MI FINAL, BONANZAS RPTED R BASE. TWR CLRED THE BONANZAS TO LAND. I THEN MADE A RPT TO TWR THAT I WAS ON 2 MI FINAL (TO REMIND HIM OF ME). AFTER A PAUSE, TWR ISSUED TFC TO ME. I RPTED 'I WAS LOOKING FOR TFC.' ABOUT 1 MIN LATER, I HEAD A RUMBLING AND LOOKED UP AND SAW THE R WING OF ONE OF THE BONANZAS PASSING OVER ME FROM R TO L WITH GEAR DOWN, 30-40 FT ABOVE AND SLIGHTLY AHEAD. I THEN DROPPED DOWN TO ABOUT 200 FT AGL AND .7 MI FROM RWY. FACTORS: A FORMATION FLT CLINIC WAS BEING HELD AT ARPT AT TIME. CTLR HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT ME AFTER CLRING ME TO LAND, WHEN I WAS STILL 5-6 MINS FROM TOUCHDOWN. CTLR TOOK NO ACTION TO CORRECT SIT ALLOWING NMAC TO OCCUR. TWR IS CITY OWNED AND OPERATED. HAZE MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR PLTS TO SEE EACH OTHER.
