Narrative:
On climb out, I noticed a 'smell' and then shortly afterward, the flight attendants (both front an back) called to notify us of a 'mist and smell' in the cabin. We continued the departure (logan 2) and accomplished the hard card procedure. Once oxygen masks on and communications established, I flew the aircraft and coordinated with ATC while the captain ran the normal checklists and coordinated with the flight attendants. We declared an emergency and requested an immediate return to bos. Descent and vectors to runway 27. Captain saw the runway first and proceeded to land aircraft normally. We were met by emergency equipment and determined we could taxi back. We did not take another flight that evening. Note: we had flown another aircraft 3 legs earlier then given a ship change. This was our first leg on another plane. I spoke to maintenance on the next morning and they found only a light fixture at seat row xyz to be burned. Packs, air conditioning and recirculation fans all were normal.

Title: A RETURN LAND IS MANDATED FOR A B737-800 WHEN FUMES ARE DETECTED IN THE CABIN AND COCKPIT SE OF BOS, MA.
Narrative: ON CLBOUT, I NOTICED A 'SMELL' AND THEN SHORTLY AFTERWARD, THE FLT ATTENDANTS (BOTH FRONT AN BACK) CALLED TO NOTIFY US OF A 'MIST AND SMELL' IN THE CABIN. WE CONTINUED THE DEP (LOGAN 2) AND ACCOMPLISHED THE HARD CARD PROC. ONCE OXYGEN MASKS ON AND COMS ESTABLISHED, I FLEW THE ACFT AND COORDINATED WITH ATC WHILE THE CAPT RAN THE NORMAL CHKLISTS AND COORDINATED WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS. WE DECLARED AN EMER AND REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE RETURN TO BOS. DSCNT AND VECTORS TO RWY 27. CAPT SAW THE RWY FIRST AND PROCEEDED TO LAND ACFT NORMALLY. WE WERE MET BY EMER EQUIP AND DETERMINED WE COULD TAXI BACK. WE DID NOT TAKE ANOTHER FLT THAT EVENING. NOTE: WE HAD FLOWN ANOTHER ACFT 3 LEGS EARLIER THEN GIVEN A SHIP CHANGE. THIS WAS OUR FIRST LEG ON ANOTHER PLANE. I SPOKE TO MAINT ON THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY FOUND ONLY A LIGHT FIXTURE AT SEAT ROW XYZ TO BE BURNED. PACKS, AIR CONDITIONING AND RECIRCULATION FANS ALL WERE NORMAL.
