Narrative:
Sjc tower cleared us into position and hold runway 30L with corporate jet rolling out and air carrier X, B737 on final. Corp jet missed all turnouts and rolled to end. Tower told us to exit runway to allow air carrier X to land and please 'expedite' off runway. As we exited runway we noticed that the line of aircraft awaiting takeoff blocked us. As we were exiting tower asked if we had enough room. The first officer answered 'affirmative' because from his side we looked ok. The nature of the hold bar is such that as I turned I was actually straddling the hold bar. Before we had time to get back to tower that we were not clear air carrier X B737 had touched down. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated traffic rolling out to the end of runway was a CL65. Reporter said that because of the construction and the number of aircraft in the run up area, he was unable to completely clear the runway as instructed. He also said that the hold short lines have recently been changed and repainted.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737 CREW IN POS ON RWY 30L AT SJC WERE INSTRUCTED TO CLR THE RWY BECAUSE OF TFC ON SHORT FINAL. THE CREW WAS UNABLE TO CLR COMPLETELY BECAUSE OF OTHER ACFT AND CONSTRUCTION IN THE RUN UP AREA.
Narrative: SJC TWR CLRED US INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 30L WITH CORPORATE JET ROLLING OUT AND ACR X, B737 ON FINAL. CORP JET MISSED ALL TURNOUTS AND ROLLED TO END. TWR TOLD US TO EXIT RWY TO ALLOW ACR X TO LAND AND PLEASE 'EXPEDITE' OFF RWY. AS WE EXITED RWY WE NOTICED THAT THE LINE OF ACFT AWAITING TAKEOFF BLOCKED US. AS WE WERE EXITING TWR ASKED IF WE HAD ENOUGH ROOM. THE FO ANSWERED 'AFFIRMATIVE' BECAUSE FROM HIS SIDE WE LOOKED OK. THE NATURE OF THE HOLD BAR IS SUCH THAT AS I TURNED I WAS ACTUALLY STRADDLING THE HOLD BAR. BEFORE WE HAD TIME TO GET BACK TO TWR THAT WE WERE NOT CLEAR ACR X B737 HAD TOUCHED DOWN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED TFC ROLLING OUT TO THE END OF RWY WAS A CL65. RPTR SAID THAT BECAUSE OF THE CONSTRUCTION AND THE NUMBER OF ACFT IN THE RUN UP AREA, HE WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETELY CLR THE RWY AS INSTRUCTED. HE ALSO SAID THAT THE HOLD SHORT LINES HAVE RECENTLY BEEN CHANGED AND REPAINTED.
