Narrative:
Assigned gate. Approached gate to find 1 guideman. Stopped and called operations about the dogleg gate. They informed us that it did not qualify as a dogleg gate, and hence did not require 2 guidemen. As I was not sure of the definition of dogleg gate, we accepted guidance and parked with 1 guideman moving over to the initial lead-in line. Upon parking, read the fom and found that the gate is, in fact, a dogleg gate and does requires 2 guidemen. I asked the mechanic who said that they don't have the staffing and it is no big deal as everyone accepts the single guideman.
