Narrative:
Plane struck fuel truck while taxiing to runway. The plane's wingtip dented the cabin attendant, becoming lodged there. Plane was stopped and turned off -- the wingtip had broken off about 6-8 inches up. Maintenance personnel dislodged the wing and took the plane to the hangar. Prior to the incident, neither I nor my instructor commented on the presence of the fuel truck in the taxiway. I noticed the truck's presence, but did not correct for it, as I assumed that since I was directly in the middle of the taxiway, the truck would be far enough away to clear the plane. In reality, I needed to correct for about 6 ft more between plane and truck. Additional factors included my divided attention between taxiing and listening to the radio for a WX report. I believe that future steps to prevent recurrence would include in getting WX information beforehand and making sure that at least 4-5 ft of clearance is available between the plane and other objects.
