Narrative:
I was acting as captain and PNF. In the right seat was another captain acting as first officer and PF. On taxi out at ZZZ, we received clearance to back-taxi to runway. The first officer acknowledged the clearance and changed to tower frequency using the remote tuning function of the #2 radio management panel. He accidentally switched another frequency onto the #1 radio, causing tower frequency to disappear. We recognized the error after a short period of silence. I then tuned tower frequency on the #1 radio and received takeoff clearance. During taxi on the ground at another airport, the same situation again happened when the first officer tried to tune company frequency on the #2 radio. We were out of contact with ground control for approximately 1 min. I recognized the error and tuned the correct frequency. Factors: the captain that was in the right seat was unfamiliar with the right seat duties and with the remote tuning function of the radios. He was previously trained in right seat tasks, but was rushed and first time in that duty position in the aircraft. Slow down!

Title: A319 CREW MISTUNED THE VHF RADIO AND WAS OUT OF CONTACT WITH THE TWR CTLR DURING BACK TAXI DOWN THE RWY.
Narrative: I WAS ACTING AS CAPT AND PNF. IN THE R SEAT WAS ANOTHER CAPT ACTING AS FO AND PF. ON TAXI OUT AT ZZZ, WE RECEIVED CLRNC TO BACK-TAXI TO RWY. THE FO ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC AND CHANGED TO TWR FREQ USING THE REMOTE TUNING FUNCTION OF THE #2 RADIO MGMNT PANEL. HE ACCIDENTALLY SWITCHED ANOTHER FREQ ONTO THE #1 RADIO, CAUSING TWR FREQ TO DISAPPEAR. WE RECOGNIZED THE ERROR AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF SILENCE. I THEN TUNED TWR FREQ ON THE #1 RADIO AND RECEIVED TKOF CLRNC. DURING TAXI ON THE GND AT ANOTHER ARPT, THE SAME SIT AGAIN HAPPENED WHEN THE FO TRIED TO TUNE COMPANY FREQ ON THE #2 RADIO. WE WERE OUT OF CONTACT WITH GND CTL FOR APPROX 1 MIN. I RECOGNIZED THE ERROR AND TUNED THE CORRECT FREQ. FACTORS: THE CAPT THAT WAS IN THE R SEAT WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE R SEAT DUTIES AND WITH THE REMOTE TUNING FUNCTION OF THE RADIOS. HE WAS PREVIOUSLY TRAINED IN R SEAT TASKS, BUT WAS RUSHED AND FIRST TIME IN THAT DUTY POS IN THE ACFT. SLOW DOWN!
