Narrative:
While taxiing in from a landing on runway 16, we had a long taxi in to the gate. As captain, I remembered that we were told that one aircraft was giving way and we were cleared to taxi in to the ramp. Copilot was trying to be helpful and was verifying we had 'power and air' at the gate. As we approached the crossing at runway 20, tower was calling for us to hold short. Copilot was 'fumbling with radios' to answer the call and tower and us 'stepped on each other.' not getting a reply, tower sent an aircraft on 1/2 mi final around. We heard the second call and abruptly held short of runway 20 at midfield. Apparently, tower had earlier told us to hold short. The copilot and I failed to repeat the clearance to each other and apparently the copilot did not read back the hold short clearance. We learned that we cannot breach our sterile cockpit procedures even in a small airport environment that we're familiar with.

Title: RIC TWR ISSUES GAR TO ACFT ON SHORT FINAL WHEN OBSERVING PREVIOUS LNDG B733 ENTER RWY ENVIRONMENT.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING IN FROM A LNDG ON RWY 16, WE HAD A LONG TAXI IN TO THE GATE. AS CAPT, I REMEMBERED THAT WE WERE TOLD THAT ONE ACFT WAS GIVING WAY AND WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI IN TO THE RAMP. COPLT WAS TRYING TO BE HELPFUL AND WAS VERIFYING WE HAD 'PWR AND AIR' AT THE GATE. AS WE APCHED THE XING AT RWY 20, TWR WAS CALLING FOR US TO HOLD SHORT. COPLT WAS 'FUMBLING WITH RADIOS' TO ANSWER THE CALL AND TWR AND US 'STEPPED ON EACH OTHER.' NOT GETTING A REPLY, TWR SENT AN ACFT ON 1/2 MI FINAL AROUND. WE HEARD THE SECOND CALL AND ABRUPTLY HELD SHORT OF RWY 20 AT MIDFIELD. APPARENTLY, TWR HAD EARLIER TOLD US TO HOLD SHORT. THE COPLT AND I FAILED TO REPEAT THE CLRNC TO EACH OTHER AND APPARENTLY THE COPLT DID NOT READ BACK THE HOLD SHORT CLRNC. WE LEARNED THAT WE CANNOT BREACH OUR STERILE COCKPIT PROCS EVEN IN A SMALL ARPT ENVIRONMENT THAT WE'RE FAMILIAR WITH.
