Narrative:

On climb out out of bos on a scheduled air carrier flight, we got an amber high oil temperature light on #1 CSD. As a precaution, we declared an emergency with bos. (We later canceled the emergency.) we landed overweight runway 22L bos uneventfully. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the PIC stated that the CSD warning light went out just after he started the APU and was about to disconnect the errant CSD. Since the system appeared to be functioning normally, the emergency was called off. The initial thought was to return and land since there was a long flight ahead of them into an area of forecast thunderstorm activity. When maintenance inspected the CSD, nothing was found that might have caused the warning. Fearing that there may be another distracting warning with unknown causes, maintenance disconnected the CSD and the flight was issued an MEL waiver for flight using the APU as a second source of AC generation. The thunderstorm activity was till there at destination airport but the PIC's mind was put to rest that there was not a 'hidden problem' within a possibly faulted CSD.

Title: A B737-200 RETURN LAND AFTER FLC NOTES A HIGH OIL TEMP INDICATION WARNING LIGHT ON #1 GENERATOR AFTER TKOF FROM BOS, MA.

Narrative: ON CLBOUT OUT OF BOS ON A SCHEDULED ACR FLT, WE GOT AN AMBER HIGH OIL TEMP LIGHT ON #1 CSD. AS A PRECAUTION, WE DECLARED AN EMER WITH BOS. (WE LATER CANCELED THE EMER.) WE LANDED OVERWT RWY 22L BOS UNEVENTFULLY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE PIC STATED THAT THE CSD WARNING LIGHT WENT OUT JUST AFTER HE STARTED THE APU AND WAS ABOUT TO DISCONNECT THE ERRANT CSD. SINCE THE SYS APPEARED TO BE FUNCTIONING NORMALLY, THE EMER WAS CALLED OFF. THE INITIAL THOUGHT WAS TO RETURN AND LAND SINCE THERE WAS A LONG FLT AHEAD OF THEM INTO AN AREA OF FORECAST TSTM ACTIVITY. WHEN MAINT INSPECTED THE CSD, NOTHING WAS FOUND THAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE WARNING. FEARING THAT THERE MAY BE ANOTHER DISTRACTING WARNING WITH UNKNOWN CAUSES, MAINT DISCONNECTED THE CSD AND THE FLT WAS ISSUED AN MEL WAIVER FOR FLT USING THE APU AS A SECOND SOURCE OF AC GENERATION. THE TSTM ACTIVITY WAS TILL THERE AT DEST ARPT BUT THE PIC'S MIND WAS PUT TO REST THAT THERE WAS NOT A 'HIDDEN PROB' WITHIN A POSSIBLY FAULTED CSD.
