Narrative:
After landing runway 29, I taxied off at taxiway F. Rather than stop after exiting the runway, I continued to taxi onto taxiway V, the parallel taxiway toward runway 29 threshold. After taxiing on taxiway V a few hundred ft, the tower asked me to switch to ground frequency. I requested a taxi clearance which was granted, then ground controller gave me a phone number to call. The tower supervisor stated that a helicopter was/had departed from taxiway V and I caused a 'possible loss of separation.' I did not see the helicopter. Tower had not contacted the helicopter during my taxi. To my knowledge, the helicopter took no evasive action. I believe the reasons for my inadvertent continuation onto the taxiway without a clearance were: 1) tower did not state 'turn left at taxiway F and contact ground' while I was on the runway. 90% of the time this is done. 2) record 100 degrees plus surface temperatures, no air conditioning in plane. 3) tcad was beeping alerts and I was turning off at time. 4) familiarity -- I have performed over 1000 takeoffs and lndgs at sjc. 5) home airport is uncontrolled.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE36 PLT IS ADVISED WHEN REQUIRED TO CALL SJC TWR THAT HIS ACTIONS CAUSED A GND CONFLICT WITH A HELI.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG RWY 29, I TAXIED OFF AT TXWY F. RATHER THAN STOP AFTER EXITING THE RWY, I CONTINUED TO TAXI ONTO TXWY V, THE PARALLEL TXWY TOWARD RWY 29 THRESHOLD. AFTER TAXIING ON TXWY V A FEW HUNDRED FT, THE TWR ASKED ME TO SWITCH TO GND FREQ. I REQUESTED A TAXI CLRNC WHICH WAS GRANTED, THEN GND CTLR GAVE ME A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL. THE TWR SUPVR STATED THAT A HELI WAS/HAD DEPARTED FROM TXWY V AND I CAUSED A 'POSSIBLE LOSS OF SEPARATION.' I DID NOT SEE THE HELI. TWR HAD NOT CONTACTED THE HELI DURING MY TAXI. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THE HELI TOOK NO EVASIVE ACTION. I BELIEVE THE REASONS FOR MY INADVERTENT CONTINUATION ONTO THE TXWY WITHOUT A CLRNC WERE: 1) TWR DID NOT STATE 'TURN L AT TXWY F AND CONTACT GND' WHILE I WAS ON THE RWY. 90% OF THE TIME THIS IS DONE. 2) RECORD 100 DEGS PLUS SURFACE TEMPS, NO AIR CONDITIONING IN PLANE. 3) TCAD WAS BEEPING ALERTS AND I WAS TURNING OFF AT TIME. 4) FAMILIARITY -- I HAVE PERFORMED OVER 1000 TKOFS AND LNDGS AT SJC. 5) HOME ARPT IS UNCTLED.
