Narrative:
We were on final approach into san and cleared to land on runway 27. About 3-4 mi out on final, the tower controller cleared a B737 for takeoff on runway 27. At first I felt I may be too close and said 'I don't think this is going to work' to the controller, but the B737 distance was increasing. We were about 200 ft AGL, the B737 had already rotated and was climbing when the controller told us to go around. We were given radar vectors back for the approach course and landed safely. After we had landed, the tower controller said 'sorry for the extra lap.' we contacted the passenger and flight attendant. None of the passenger voiced their concerns.
