Narrative:

Upon landing at aus, local control told arriving flight to 'exit runway 17L at taxiway left, turn right on taxiway B and hold short of taxiway K.' clearance was acknowledged as aircraft taxied up taxiway B. I began to look at taxi chart for taxiway K. First officer was completing after landing checklist (head down). While taxiing I missed the taxiway K hold short. Local controller told us to stop. Aircraft was about 200-300 ft past taxiway K. Oncoming (aircraft #2) B727 was taxiing in the opposite direction and had just passed taxiway J. Both aircraft stopped about 1000 ft from each other, but neither could turn or back up. A tug was called, the B727 (aircraft #2) was pushed back to taxiway J so the MD80 could taxi up and turn right past the B727.
