Narrative:
Pilot requested taxi clearance and ground controller gave instructions as follows 'taxi to runway 23, hold short of C4 inbound fuel truck.' we began taxi, intending to hold short of C4 when controller asked 'are you holding short of taxiway C?' we said no, we were told to hold short of C4. The ground controller stated there is no C4, and that he had asked us 'to hold short of taxiway C, 'for' a fuel truck.' we told him of the miscom from his taxi clearance, and he said no problem, redirected the fuel truck, and directed us to continue the taxi with no further events. This miscom with the number '4' and the word 'for' must be addressed, as it has caused other accidents.
