Narrative:
I had departed paine field in everett at approximately XA30 pm for a 2 hour pleasure flight. I departed west with 1 passenger and did 2 lndgs at langley W10. I departed to the west from there and practiced a few maneuvers to the south of jefferson county 059. I then proceeded east of jefferson county airport so as I could approach it from the north. I overflew runways 09/27 at jefferson county at a north to south direction to check the windsock, and then entered the left downwind for runway 27. All this time, I am announcing my intentions on 123.0, hearing harvey airfield reports on the same frequency. I was setting up for a short field with a 50 ft obstacle using the numbers for the obstacle. Just as I was pulling the power, out of my right eye, I saw a plane coming from right to left immediately in front of us. I then pushed the nose down abruptly to avoid a collision. The resultant of this action was a hard landing. I pulled the plane off the active, got out and inspected the plane. I noticed the tailskid had been ripped off, and went on the runway to locate it. I did and put it in the plane. At this time I proceeded to try to call the FBO and did not have a cell phone signal. I then determined the plane airworthy and took off to take my passenger near his home so he did not have to drive (he and I were both shook up) and proceeded back to pae.

I THEN DETERMINED THE PLANE AIRWORTHY AND TOOK OFF TO TAKE MY PAX NEAR HIS HOME SO HE DID NOT HAVE TO DRIVE (HE AND I WERE BOTH SHOOK UP) AND PROCEEDED BACK TO PAE.
