Narrative:
After takeoff, flight to tri experienced a 45%-55% decrease in torque on the left engine. The first officer was PF. The torque came back to normal within 2-3 seconds. I informed ATC that we would be returning to land. While performing the after takeoff checks, the left generator failed. I completed the after takeoff checks, raising the flaps at this time. A flap overspd message was observed. The left generator was restored using company procedures. We circled and landed following normal company procedures. Upon returning to the gate, I wrote up the left engine and flap overspd items. The flap overspd was caused by the distraction of the situation (engine, generator, radio communication). The safety of the flight was never compromised.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DO-328 PIC AFTER TKOF RPT OF LOSING TORQUE ON THE L ENG, THE L GENERATOR AND EXCEEDING THE FLAP EXTENDED SPD DURING THE RETURN LAND AT PIT, PA.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF, FLT TO TRI EXPERIENCED A 45%-55% DECREASE IN TORQUE ON THE L ENG. THE FO WAS PF. THE TORQUE CAME BACK TO NORMAL WITHIN 2-3 SECONDS. I INFORMED ATC THAT WE WOULD BE RETURNING TO LAND. WHILE PERFORMING THE AFTER TKOF CHKS, THE L GENERATOR FAILED. I COMPLETED THE AFTER TKOF CHKS, RAISING THE FLAPS AT THIS TIME. A FLAP OVERSPD MESSAGE WAS OBSERVED. THE L GENERATOR WAS RESTORED USING COMPANY PROCS. WE CIRCLED AND LANDED FOLLOWING NORMAL COMPANY PROCS. UPON RETURNING TO THE GATE, I WROTE UP THE L ENG AND FLAP OVERSPD ITEMS. THE FLAP OVERSPD WAS CAUSED BY THE DISTR OF THE SIT (ENG, GENERATOR, RADIO COM). THE SAFETY OF THE FLT WAS NEVER COMPROMISED.
