Narrative:

Distraction to pilot (myself) due to feeling that, on approach to land from west, that engine of C172N, I had just purchased, didn't seem as smooth as I like. Was told to report left base to runway 24. Poor thinking, and arriving toward runway 6, I was on left base for runway 6. Wind and other traffic no conflict. Requested then runway 6 and that was approved by controller. No hazards or conflicts involved, just distraction to pilot by attention to engine and ensuing fuzzy thinking which occurred.
