Narrative:
Country boy screws up at the big city. This is not an excuse. I was waiting for takeoff clearance on a taxiway not visible to the tower when tower asked if I had the twin in sight that had departed the runway behind me. I called tower when I did have it in sight. Just after the call to tower, I heard 'clear to take off' no call sign. Shame on me, I thought the call was for me and I responded 'departing taxiway.' short while after takeoff, tower warned to listen for my call sign. It hit me then what I had done. In the airport that I normally fly out of, call signs are often cut out call signs. In the future, I will wait to hear my call sign before acting. I knew better and I know better.

Title: A ROTARY WINGED EMS ATP PLT PERFORMS AN UNAUTH TKOF FROM A TXWY WHEN RESPONDING TO A TKOF CLRNC WITHOUT A DESIGNATED CALL SIGN AT ZZZ, US.
Narrative: COUNTRY BOY SCREWS UP AT THE BIG CITY. THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE. I WAS WAITING FOR TKOF CLRNC ON A TXWY NOT VISIBLE TO THE TWR WHEN TWR ASKED IF I HAD THE TWIN IN SIGHT THAT HAD DEPARTED THE RWY BEHIND ME. I CALLED TWR WHEN I DID HAVE IT IN SIGHT. JUST AFTER THE CALL TO TWR, I HEARD 'CLR TO TAKE OFF' NO CALL SIGN. SHAME ON ME, I THOUGHT THE CALL WAS FOR ME AND I RESPONDED 'DEPARTING TXWY.' SHORT WHILE AFTER TKOF, TWR WARNED TO LISTEN FOR MY CALL SIGN. IT HIT ME THEN WHAT I HAD DONE. IN THE ARPT THAT I NORMALLY FLY OUT OF, CALL SIGNS ARE OFTEN CUT OUT CALL SIGNS. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL WAIT TO HEAR MY CALL SIGN BEFORE ACTING. I KNEW BETTER AND I KNOW BETTER.
