Narrative:
I was preparing for departure from barnes municipal (kbaf), at approximately XA00. After receiving taxi instructions from the ground controller to taxi to runway 2 via alpha taxiway, I started to taxi. Before I realized it, I had passed the hold short lines at alpha for runway 2. The controller advised me of this and told me to taxi past runway 2 on alpha to the opposite side, and then to pass the hold short lines and turn 180 degrees so as to face runway 2 once again, however remaining behind the hold short lines on this side of alpha. I complied with these instructions and the rest of my departure was normal. I believe that I passed the hold short lines because I was unfamiliar with the airport and I should have asked for a progressive taxi instead of reading the airport diagram while I taxied. In the future, I will become more familiar with the airport diagram and ask for progressive taxi instructions when I am in an unfamiliar airport.

Title: A PA28 PLT CROSSES THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 02 WITHOUT CLRNC AT BAF, MA.
Narrative: I WAS PREPARING FOR DEPARTURE FROM BARNES MUNICIPAL (KBAF), AT APPROX XA00. AFTER RECEIVING TAXI INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE GND CTLR TO TAXI TO RWY 2 VIA ALPHA TXWY, I STARTED TO TAXI. BEFORE I REALIZED IT, I HAD PASSED THE HOLD SHORT LINES AT ALPHA FOR RWY 2. THE CTLR ADVISED ME OF THIS AND TOLD ME TO TAXI PAST RWY 2 ON ALPHA TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE, AND THEN TO PASS THE HOLD SHORT LINES AND TURN 180 DEGS SO AS TO FACE RWY 2 ONCE AGAIN, HOWEVER REMAINING BEHIND THE HOLD SHORT LINES ON THIS SIDE OF ALPHA. I COMPLIED WITH THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND THE REST OF MY DEP WAS NORMAL. I BELIEVE THAT I PASSED THE HOLD SHORT LINES BECAUSE I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT AND I SHOULD HAVE ASKED FOR A PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTEAD OF READING THE ARPT DIAGRAM WHILE I TAXIED. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL BECOME MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT DIAGRAM AND ASK FOR PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WHEN I AM IN AN UNFAMILIAR ARPT.
