Narrative:
After landing runway 28L (pit), we were cleared to turn right on taxiway west, cross runway 28C, and contacted pit ramp control (131.37) at the end of taxiway west prior to entering the ramp area. After contacting ramp control, they told us to pass behind a B737 approaching taxiway D3 and taxiway west from our left. As the B737 neared us, it appeared to us, that the B737 momentarily angled toward taxiway D3, giving us the impression that he was going to exit on taxiway de. We proceeded to enter the ramp area and pass behind him from the right side. At that instant, ramp control reprimanded us for pulling in front of the B737. The ramp controller never clarified whether the B737 was exiting taxiway D3 or passing left to right in front of us. Based on the momentary movement of the B737 toward taxiway D3, we thought he was exiting taxiway D3 and proceeded behind him from the right side.

Title: A LOW TIME DO-328 FO REPORTED THAT DURING THE TAXI TO THE PIT RAMP, GND WAS UNCLEAR WITH INFO REGARDING A B737 THEY WERE TO FOLLOW.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG RWY 28L (PIT), WE WERE CLRED TO TURN R ON TXWY W, CROSS RWY 28C, AND CONTACTED PIT RAMP CTL (131.37) AT THE END OF TXWY W PRIOR TO ENTERING THE RAMP AREA. AFTER CONTACTING RAMP CTL, THEY TOLD US TO PASS BEHIND A B737 APCHING TXWY D3 AND TXWY W FROM OUR LEFT. AS THE B737 NEARED US, IT APPEARED TO US, THAT THE B737 MOMENTARILY ANGLED TOWARD TXWY D3, GIVING US THE IMPRESSION THAT HE WAS GOING TO EXIT ON TXWY DE. WE PROCEEDED TO ENTER THE RAMP AREA AND PASS BEHIND HIM FROM THE R SIDE. AT THAT INSTANT, RAMP CTL REPRIMANDED US FOR PULLING IN FRONT OF THE B737. THE RAMP CTLR NEVER CLARIFIED WHETHER THE B737 WAS EXITING TXWY D3 OR PASSING L TO R IN FRONT OF US. BASED ON THE MOMENTARY MOVEMENT OF THE B737 TOWARD TXWY D3, WE THOUGHT HE WAS EXITING TXWY D3 AND PROCEEDED BEHIND HIM FROM THE R SIDE.
