Narrative:

Departed and during climb out at approximately 13000 ft, I lost the left hydraulic system fluid. All appropriate QRH and checklist procedures were accomplished. A loud noise was heard by passenger and cabin crew about the time of system failure. I felt the safest course of action was to land as soon as possible. I declared an emergency due to an overweight landing situation (213000 pounds). ATC was very helpful and accommodating. Landing on runway 18R at mco was normal and uneventful. To continue in this situation to destination for another 4 1/2 hours flying time seemed to me a bad judgement call. Therefore, I elected to land nearby at mco.
