Narrative:

We were on approach into mdw with an altitude clearance of 5000 ft. After inadvertently passing through 5000 ft we heard the cockpit altitude deviation oral warning at approximately 4700 ft. I immediately climbed back to 5000 ft with no traffic conflict. All company procedures were followed precisely except for the part where I was to level off. Contributing factors: my first officer was tuning and identing radios preparing for the approach and I was circumnaving thunderstorms.
