Narrative:
Was eastbound at 1000 ft passing approximately 1 mi north of plantation airport. When on the east side of the airport, saw a twin northbound at approximately the same altitude. Started a climb, but was not sure if the twin was level or climbing also. Then observed the twin in a left bank to pass behind us. Do not know if the twin turned to miss us or turned to enter the pattern at plantation. Did not hear any conversation or position reports from any aircraft at the plantation airport on frequency 122.8. If the twin was landing at plantation, it should have given position reports. Although we felt we were outside of the traffic pattern, we should have given the airport a wider berth. Weather was VFR with approximately 5 mi visibility in haze.

Title: C172 PLT AT 1000 FT TRANSITING THROUGH AN ARPT TFC AREA, CLIMBED TO AVOID CONFLICT WITH A LIGHT TWIN POSSIBLY ENTERING THE NON TWRED ARPT TFC PATTERN.
Narrative: WAS EBOUND AT 1000 FT PASSING APPROX 1 MI N OF PLANTATION ARPT. WHEN ON THE E SIDE OF THE ARPT, SAW A TWIN NBOUND AT APPROX THE SAME ALT. DID NOT HEAR ANY CONVERSATION OR POSITION REPORTS FROM ANY ACFT AT THE PLANTATION ARPT ON FREQ 122.8. IF THE TWIN WAS LANDING AT PLANTATION, IT SHOULD HAVE GIVEN POSITION RPTS. ALTHOUGH WE FELT WE WERE OUTSIDE OF THE TFC PATTERN, WE SHOULD HAVE GIVEN THE ARPT A WIDER BERTH. WEATHER WAS VFR WITH APPROX 5 MI VISIBILITY IN HAZE.
