Narrative:
I recently requested that my certificate number be changed to other than my ssn. When I received the new certificate, my type ratings were not on the front of the certificate and I thought it was incorrect. I intended to return the new certificate to the FAA for corrections and proceeded on an air carrier trip without them. I assumed that my old certificate was valid, as I continue to keep my records under ssn with FAA. An FAA inspector boarded our flight from lit to ZZZ and I explained the situation when presenting my certificate. Although no issue was made of it by the inspector, I subsequently found out that the old certificate was no longer valid.
