Narrative:
2 private pilots were aboard -- one flying the approach, struggling with windshear and turbulence, and crosswind of 18 KTS. The other pilot (PIC) was distraction in the approach by speed brakes that, once deployed, would not retract. The PIC had asked the other pilot to take the controls, continue the approach and handful the turbulence and crosswind at about 3 mi out while the PIC tried to get the speed brakes to retract. By the time the PIC resolved the speed brake problem and took back the flight controls from the other pilot, the plane was on a 3/4 mi final, the checklist had been lost, due to turbulence, under the seat and a final landing check was performed without the checklist. PIC missed the gear while struggling with the windshear and crosswind. The tower saw that the gear was not down and ordered a go around, which was immediately executed the aircraft then flew a normal downwind and base and made a normal landing without incident. The PIC thanked the tower for being so alert and warning the PIC of the problem in time to execute the go around.

Title: SMA PLTS FORGOT TO LOWER THE LNDG GEAR ON APCH TO SUN.
Narrative: 2 PVT PLTS WERE ABOARD -- ONE FLYING THE APCH, STRUGGLING WITH WINDSHEAR AND TURB, AND XWIND OF 18 KTS. THE OTHER PLT (PIC) WAS DISTR IN THE APCH BY SPD BRAKES THAT, ONCE DEPLOYED, WOULD NOT RETRACT. THE PIC HAD ASKED THE OTHER PLT TO TAKE THE CTLS, CONTINUE THE APCH AND HANDFUL THE TURB AND XWIND AT ABOUT 3 MI OUT WHILE THE PIC TRIED TO GET THE SPD BRAKES TO RETRACT. BY THE TIME THE PIC RESOLVED THE SPD BRAKE PROB AND TOOK BACK THE FLT CTLS FROM THE OTHER PLT, THE PLANE WAS ON A 3/4 MI FINAL, THE CHKLIST HAD BEEN LOST, DUE TO TURB, UNDER THE SEAT AND A FINAL LNDG CHK WAS PERFORMED WITHOUT THE CHKLIST. PIC MISSED THE GEAR WHILE STRUGGLING WITH THE WINDSHEAR AND XWIND. THE TWR SAW THAT THE GEAR WAS NOT DOWN AND ORDERED A GAR, WHICH WAS IMMEDIATELY EXECUTED THE ACFT THEN FLEW A NORMAL DOWNWIND AND BASE AND MADE A NORMAL LNDG WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE PIC THANKED THE TWR FOR BEING SO ALERT AND WARNING THE PIC OF THE PROB IN TIME TO EXECUTE THE GAR.
