Narrative:
Jax center gave clearance to descend to FL270. At about FL280 controller asked if we were level 29000 ft. I said 'no you cleared us to FL270.' ATC responded back, 'maintain FL290.' possible problem was we were bead, there was another flight beda. I believe ATC transposed the flight numbers by mistake. We read back all clrncs back with our call sign bead. This seems to be a recurring problem with similar call signs. Not only are similar call signs confusing to crewmembers it is also confusing to ATC.

Title: A B737-200 FLC ACCEPTS A CLRNC MEANT FOR ANOTHER FLT WITH A SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGN NEAR SAV, GA.
Narrative: JAX CENTER GAVE CLRNC TO DESCEND TO FL270. AT ABOUT FL280 CTLR ASKED IF WE WERE LEVEL 29000 FT. I SAID 'NO YOU CLRED US TO FL270.' ATC RESPONDED BACK, 'MAINTAIN FL290.' POSSIBLE PROBLEM WAS WE WERE BEAD, THERE WAS ANOTHER FLIGHT BEDA. I BELIEVE ATC TRANSPOSED THE FLT NUMBERS BY MISTAKE.
