Narrative:
On nov/xa/01, aircraft XXX had a medical emergency and used the medical kit. We did not stock a kit, so it was placed on MEL. No MEL covered the new enhanced emergency medical kit, so it was placed on an information MEL, and removed from aircraft. This B757 is the only one in the fleet to have this kit installed by a prototype xx (draft). A maintenance alert bulletin was issued for aed/enhanced emergency medical kit and does not say anything about the enhanced emergency medical kit. No information or mis-information gets the mechanic in a bind. The weekly check does not address the enhanced emergency medical kit, only emergency medical kit and first aid kit installed in aircraft. We need the information to gain the knowledge. We do not want this to be a link in the chain of events. Our maintenance control had no information about this, so he got engineering on the phone and told us that no modification or engineering authority/authorized has been done on this aircraft. Just place it on an MEL and he would get in touch with the engineer who would handle this system. When maintenance control and engineering have no idea of what is on the aircraft to help the mechanic in the field, he is set up to fail.
