Narrative:
Flight operated with improper placard. Aircraft had upper red strobe light placarded inoperative. Placarded as 33-13A, day operations. Should have been 33-13B, night operations. Wingtips' strobes were operable. Maintenance failed to properly re-placard upper strobe after wingtip strobes were repaired. Aircraft operate 3 days with this placard. I missed the signoff of the wingtip strobes because I reviewed just the required 3 days of entries. During origination preflight with maintenance at XA45, nov/xa/01 at ZZZ, upper strobe was confirmed operable. Placard removed. During my review of the logbook and MEL I missed the day/night difference. I assumed since the airplane came in at night that it was good to go out again at night. Also, when maintenance removed the placard for the tip strobes, they failed to reissue the placard in the computer for the upper strobe, hence dispatch knew nothing about the item.
