Narrative:
Advised by flight attendant of passenger with a medical problem. At FL310 advised diabetic coma related. Declared emergency and diverted to ZZZ. Called dispatch and advised of problem and request of medical assistance at gate for passenger. In descent requested permission to exceed 250 KTS below 10000 ft with ZZZ approach and completed short approach. Paramedics met the aircraft. Passenger and family removed and flight continued to destination.
