Narrative:

We were climbing out of meridian, ms, and were given a climb to FL230. There was an active MOA so center gave us a vector 15 degrees to the left. I was out of FL220 when center said out of FL250 expect direct memphis VORTAC. We heard climb to FL250 then out of FL250 direct mem. I leveled at FL233 and asked my copilot to verify the altitude. They said we need you to level at FL230. So we did. Then they said climb to FL260 and direct memphis out of FL250. 2 frequencys later we were given a number to call. Remedy: clearance was misleading stating a higher altitude than was assigned. Better CRM.

Title: A LJ24 CREW ASSIGNED FL230 INAPPROPRIATELY CLBED TO FL250 AFTER HEARING THE CTLR STATE, OUT OF FL250 EXPECT DIRECT MEM.

Narrative: WE WERE CLBING OUT OF MERIDIAN, MS, AND WERE GIVEN A CLB TO FL230. THERE WAS AN ACTIVE MOA SO CTR GAVE US A VECTOR 15 DEGS TO THE L. I WAS OUT OF FL220 WHEN CTR SAID OUT OF FL250 EXPECT DIRECT MEMPHIS VORTAC. WE HEARD CLB TO FL250 THEN OUT OF FL250 DIRECT MEM. I LEVELED AT FL233 AND ASKED MY COPLT TO VERIFY THE ALT. THEY SAID WE NEED YOU TO LEVEL AT FL230. SO WE DID. THEN THEY SAID CLB TO FL260 AND DIRECT MEMPHIS OUT OF FL250. 2 FREQS LATER WE WERE GIVEN A NUMBER TO CALL. REMEDY: CLRNC WAS MISLEADING STATING A HIGHER ALT THAN WAS ASSIGNED. BETTER CRM.
