Narrative:

During climb out at approximately FL250 noticed that we got the brake overheat light on and was indicating 400-500 degrees. Appeared to be an indicator problem but I asked the number 1 flight attendant to go and see if the floor was warm in the specific area. Passengers told her before she asked them that the floor was very hot. After about 5 mins the overheat light went out but we decided that in the interest of safety we would divert and have the gear visually inspected while it was still daylight. Talked to dispatch and decided to divert to ZZZ. ZZZ tower indicated that they thought the left outboard wheel had damage but the inboard was fine. We accomplished all abnormal procedures and proceeded with an overweight landing at ZZZ. Maintenance noted no problems and we then continued on after the overweight landing inspection.

APPEARED TO BE AN INDICATOR PROB BUT I ASKED THE NUMBER 1 FA TO GO AND SEE IF THE FLOOR WAS WARM IN THE SPECIFIC AREA. PAXS TOLD HER BEFORE SHE ASKED THEM THAT THE FLOOR WAS VERY HOT.
