Narrative:
After landing at dfw our gate was occupied and we were holding short of taxiway week northbound on gulf taxiway. Ramp told us our gate xx was now open. Ground then cleared us to our gate via spot xyz. We then called ramp approaching. Ramp informed us of outbound traffic which we had already seen. We were already stopping to hold short. Ground then asked if spot xyz would be ok for entry because ramp had originally given us spot YYY. Ramp said work it out with ground. Ground indicated that we should continue via spot xyz while traffic was exiting ramp outbound via spot ZZZ and that clearance looked good to us and ramp. No problems. It was not until later when I was looking over air carrier parking chart pages that I discovered that spot YYY was required for our B767 and that spot xyz or ZZZ were not the right spots.

Title: B767 CREW, TAXIING TO THE GATE AT KDFW, ENTERED THE RAMP AT A POINT CLOSED TO THEIR TYPE ACFT.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG AT DFW OUR GATE WAS OCCUPIED AND WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF TXWY WK NORTHBOUND ON GULF TXWY. RAMP TOLD US OUR GATE XX WAS NOW OPEN. GND THEN CLRED US TO OUR GATE VIA SPOT XYZ. WE THEN CALLED RAMP APCHING. RAMP INFORMED US OF OUTBOUND TFC WHICH WE HAD ALREADY SEEN. WE WERE ALREADY STOPPING TO HOLD SHORT. GND THEN ASKED IF SPOT XYZ WOULD BE OK FOR ENTRY BECAUSE RAMP HAD ORIGINALLY GIVEN US SPOT YYY. RAMP SAID WORK IT OUT WITH GND. GND INDICATED THAT WE SHOULD CONTINUE VIA SPOT XYZ WHILE TFC WAS EXITING RAMP OUTBOUND VIA SPOT ZZZ AND THAT CLRNC LOOKED GOOD TO US AND RAMP. NO PROBS. IT WAS NOT UNTIL LATER WHEN I WAS LOOKING OVER ACR PARKING CHART PAGES THAT I DISCOVERED THAT SPOT YYY WAS REQUIRED FOR OUR B767 AND THAT SPOT XYZ OR ZZZ WERE NOT THE RIGHT SPOTS.
