Narrative:
I was flying my J3 cub around the foothills of some mountains at about 500 ft AGL. I had just turned north when I lost engine power. The engine still ran, but had no power. I selected a field and landed successfully, no injuries or aircraft damage. I suspected carburetor ice, but later on the same day I attempted to restart the engine and was unsuccessful. Also there was some oil on the left side of the aircraft, outside the cowling. The engine has 16 hours since major overhaul and has run fine up to this point. As soon as the engine lost power, I applied full carburetor heat, but this was unsuccessful. The engine ran normally until suddenly it stopped making power. I was successful in landing the aircraft safely in a field, where I secured it.
