Narrative:
Approximately 10 mi south of coolidge airport, my low voltage light went on. I was en route from marana northwest regional (avq) to phoenix deer valley (dvt). Conditions were excellent VFR, light winds. After troubleshooting, I shut down non-essential electrical equipment (#2 radio, DME, GPS, strobes) and notified phoenix approach. I asked to be vectored to deer valley. They were very helpful, but my electrical power quickly dissipated. Using a hand-held radio, I declared an emergency. Phoenix approach gave me a heading to the nearest airport, chandler (chd). Power was minimal, but my engine was fine. Phoenix told me chandler was expecting me. With a flashlight, I could see well enough. Aircraft control was fine, and I landed without incident, (ie, no damage at all to the plane, no injuries, no traffic issues). I called the tower on their intercom and thanked them. They expressed no concern. By the end, my radios were too weak, so I could not call phoenix, which seemed not needed, as chandler knew of my arrival. Airplane is being svced at this time.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE36 PLT HAD GENERATOR FAILURE AT NIGHT.
Narrative: APPROX 10 MI S OF COOLIDGE ARPT, MY LOW VOLTAGE LIGHT WENT ON. I WAS ENRTE FROM MARANA NW REGIONAL (AVQ) TO PHOENIX DEER VALLEY (DVT). CONDITIONS WERE EXCELLENT VFR, LIGHT WINDS. AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING, I SHUT DOWN NON-ESSENTIAL ELECTRICAL EQUIP (#2 RADIO, DME, GPS, STROBES) AND NOTIFIED PHOENIX APCH. I ASKED TO BE VECTORED TO DEER VALLEY. THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL, BUT MY ELECTRICAL PWR QUICKLY DISSIPATED. USING A HAND-HELD RADIO, I DECLARED AN EMER. PHOENIX APCH GAVE ME A HEADING TO THE NEAREST ARPT, CHANDLER (CHD). PWR WAS MINIMAL, BUT MY ENG WAS FINE. PHOENIX TOLD ME CHANDLER WAS EXPECTING ME. WITH A FLASHLIGHT, I COULD SEE WELL ENOUGH. ACFT CTL WAS FINE, AND I LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT, (IE, NO DAMAGE AT ALL TO THE PLANE, NO INJURIES, NO TFC ISSUES). I CALLED THE TWR ON THEIR INTERCOM AND THANKED THEM. THEY EXPRESSED NO CONCERN. BY THE END, MY RADIOS WERE TOO WEAK, SO I COULD NOT CALL PHOENIX, WHICH SEEMED NOT NEEDED, AS CHANDLER KNEW OF MY ARR. AIRPLANE IS BEING SVCED AT THIS TIME.
