Narrative:
During takeoff at teb runway 24, tower directed another aircraft to make a go around. After takeoff, we heard the other plane ask if that hawker was taking off. The tower asked us why we departed after being instructed to taxi into position and hold. We said we must have misunderstood our clearance. We have no reason as to why we would take off without a clearance to do so. As professional pilots, we can think of no contributing factors. We were familiar with the airport, well rested. We notified management of what took place upon landing at our destination, and were airlined home for retraining.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN LTT CREW, DEPARTING TEB, TOOK OFF WITHOUT A CLRNC.
Narrative: DURING TKOF AT TEB RWY 24, TWR DIRECTED ANOTHER ACFT TO MAKE A GAR. AFTER TKOF, WE HEARD THE OTHER PLANE ASK IF THAT HAWKER WAS TAKING OFF. THE TWR ASKED US WHY WE DEPARTED AFTER BEING INSTRUCTED TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD. WE SAID WE MUST HAVE MISUNDERSTOOD OUR CLRNC. WE HAVE NO REASON AS TO WHY WE WOULD TAKE OFF WITHOUT A CLRNC TO DO SO. AS PROFESSIONAL PLTS, WE CAN THINK OF NO CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. WE WERE FAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT, WELL RESTED. WE NOTIFIED MGMNT OF WHAT TOOK PLACE UPON LNDG AT OUR DEST, AND WERE AIRLINED HOME FOR RETRAINING.
