Narrative:

We were level at 3000 ft and I called the airport. Approach then said 'descend to 2000 ft, maintain that altitude until further advised. You are cleared for the visual runway 13L.' we started our descent to 2000 ft. Then we just noticed traffic going right below us. Maybe a min later, ATC handed us off to the tower. Then he said 'descend lower,.' then he noticed we were below 3000 ft going to 2000 ft. He made a comment that we had already started down and we weren't supposed to. He got kind of nasty, then handed us off to the tower. I told him and I read back to him that last clearance (descend to 2000 ft, cleared for the visual runway 13L, maintain that altitude until further advised).
