Narrative:
We were level at 3000 ft and I called the airport. Approach then said 'descend to 2000 ft, maintain that altitude until further advised. You are cleared for the visual runway 13L.' we started our descent to 2000 ft. Then we just noticed traffic going right below us. Maybe a min later, ATC handed us off to the tower. Then he said 'descend lower,.' then he noticed we were below 3000 ft going to 2000 ft. He made a comment that we had already started down and we weren't supposed to. He got kind of nasty, then handed us off to the tower. I told him and I read back to him that last clearance (descend to 2000 ft, cleared for the visual runway 13L, maintain that altitude until further advised).

Title: D10 CTLR CHALLENGES FA50 OBSERVING DSCNT FROM 3000 FT ON APCH TO DAL ARPT. FLC COUNTER CHALLENGE D10 AS ALREADY HAVING APCH CLRNC.
Narrative: WE WERE LEVEL AT 3000 FT AND I CALLED THE ARPT. APCH THEN SAID 'DSND TO 2000 FT, MAINTAIN THAT ALT UNTIL FURTHER ADVISED. YOU ARE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL RWY 13L.' WE STARTED OUR DSCNT TO 2000 FT. THEN WE JUST NOTICED TFC GOING RIGHT BELOW US. MAYBE A MIN LATER, ATC HANDED US OFF TO THE TWR. THEN HE SAID 'DSND LOWER,.' THEN HE NOTICED WE WERE BELOW 3000 FT GOING TO 2000 FT. HE MADE A COMMENT THAT WE HAD ALREADY STARTED DOWN AND WE WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO. HE GOT KIND OF NASTY, THEN HANDED US OFF TO THE TWR. I TOLD HIM AND I READ BACK TO HIM THAT LAST CLRNC (DSND TO 2000 FT, CLRED FOR THE VISUAL RWY 13L, MAINTAIN THAT ALT UNTIL FURTHER ADVISED).
