Narrative:
This is an altitude deviation caused by a change in approach clearance at the last moment, while one pilot was busy contacting company and the other pilot trying to enter data into FMC while flying the airplane. On jan/wed/02, flying iah-las, in a B757 on initial descent into las, with the first officer flying, an attempt was made to contact las operations by the captain, but no contact was made due to terrain blocking reception. After completing the descent check, the captain reattempted to contact las operations. While he was talking to operations, approach control issued a change in the arrival at which time the first officer attempted to enter the data into the FMC while flying the airplane. The captain finished with operations and noticed the first officer going through the restr at lynsy of 12000 ft, 250 KTS. After a momentary deviation of 300-400 ft below 12000 ft, the first officer disconnected the autoplt and returned to 12000 ft.

Title: A B757 FLC OVERSHOOTS THEIR ASSIGNED STAR ALT WHILE DISTR WITH COMPANY RADIO CALL AND AN AMENDED CLRNC INTO LAS, NV.
Narrative: THIS IS AN ALTDEV CAUSED BY A CHANGE IN APCH CLRNC AT THE LAST MOMENT, WHILE ONE PLT WAS BUSY CONTACTING COMPANY AND THE OTHER PLT TRYING TO ENTER DATA INTO FMC WHILE FLYING THE AIRPLANE. ON JAN/WED/02, FLYING IAH-LAS, IN A B757 ON INITIAL DSCNT INTO LAS, WITH THE FO FLYING, AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO CONTACT LAS OPS BY THE CAPT, BUT NO CONTACT WAS MADE DUE TO TERRAIN BLOCKING RECEPTION. AFTER COMPLETING THE DSCNT CHK, THE CAPT REATTEMPTED TO CONTACT LAS OPS. WHILE HE WAS TALKING TO OPS, APCH CTL ISSUED A CHANGE IN THE ARR AT WHICH TIME THE FO ATTEMPTED TO ENTER THE DATA INTO THE FMC WHILE FLYING THE AIRPLANE. THE CAPT FINISHED WITH OPS AND NOTICED THE FO GOING THROUGH THE RESTR AT LYNSY OF 12000 FT, 250 KTS. AFTER A MOMENTARY DEV OF 300-400 FT BELOW 12000 FT, THE FO DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND RETURNED TO 12000 FT.
