Narrative:
Crew was cleared to descend and maintain 17000 ft. On leaving FL180 we reset altimeter based on a WX sequence received from ACARS. After leveling at 17000 ft, center questioned our altitude and advised us the altimeter was 29.87. We had set 30.32. We were approximately 400 ft off our altitude. We made the correction. We rechked the ACARS WX sequence several times and then copied it exactly as it appeared on our screen. We had been given bad information and were 400 ft off our altitude as a result of that information.
