Narrative:
Flight from rdu to lwb. Called clearance delivery 'VFR to lewisburg, wv....' obtained altitude, departure frequency and squawk, the destination may have been blocked or not stated when ATC gave the clearance. Took off runway 5R and assigned heading 070 degrees then cleared to 3000 ft. Several mins passed, then cleared on course which was about 330 degrees. After turning on course, a min or so went by, then the controller gave me a heading of 340 degrees and said they thought I was going somewhere else. In a few seconds the controller called traffic and told me to turn left to 270 degrees. Realizing they were confused, I focused on the traffic, saw it, reported it, and turned to 270 degrees. The traffic was climbing and I judged it would pass behind and below me, which it did. The captain of the other airplane asked ATC if the mooney was under their control? ATC said yes and that there was a mix-up about my destination. The captain of the other airplane stated that he would need to file a report since he did not see me and I was at his altitude and too close.

Title: RDU DEP CTLR BECAME CONFUSED WITH VFR M20 DEST AND PROVIDES VECTORS THAT RESULTED IN A TFC CONFLICT WITH A DEPARTING ACR JET.
Narrative: FLT FROM RDU TO LWB. CALLED CLRNC DELIVERY 'VFR TO LEWISBURG, WV....' OBTAINED ALT, DEP FREQ AND SQUAWK, THE DEST MAY HAVE BEEN BLOCKED OR NOT STATED WHEN ATC GAVE THE CLRNC. TOOK OFF RWY 5R AND ASSIGNED HDG 070 DEGS THEN CLRED TO 3000 FT. SEVERAL MINS PASSED, THEN CLRED ON COURSE WHICH WAS ABOUT 330 DEGS. AFTER TURNING ON COURSE, A MIN OR SO WENT BY, THEN THE CTLR GAVE ME A HDG OF 340 DEGS AND SAID THEY THOUGHT I WAS GOING SOMEWHERE ELSE. IN A FEW SECONDS THE CTLR CALLED TFC AND TOLD ME TO TURN L TO 270 DEGS. REALIZING THEY WERE CONFUSED, I FOCUSED ON THE TFC, SAW IT, RPTED IT, AND TURNED TO 270 DEGS. THE TFC WAS CLBING AND I JUDGED IT WOULD PASS BEHIND AND BELOW ME, WHICH IT DID. THE CAPT OF THE OTHER AIRPLANE ASKED ATC IF THE MOONEY WAS UNDER THEIR CTL? ATC SAID YES AND THAT THERE WAS A MIX-UP ABOUT MY DEST. THE CAPT OF THE OTHER AIRPLANE STATED THAT HE WOULD NEED TO FILE A RPT SINCE HE DID NOT SEE ME AND I WAS AT HIS ALT AND TOO CLOSE.
