Narrative:

I climbed out of dpa on a 270 degree heading. I climbed to 5500 ft MSL and held in cruise at that altitude for about 10-15 mins. Because I was VFR on a west heading, I should have been at an even altitude +500 ft. After 10-15 mins, I realized I was at the wrong altitude and dropped to 4500 ft MSL. The incident was caused by not thinking -- poor judgement.

Narrative: I CLBED OUT OF DPA ON A 270 DEG HDG. I CLBED TO 5500 FT MSL AND HELD IN CRUISE AT THAT ALT FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINS. BECAUSE I WAS VFR ON A W HDG, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT AN EVEN ALT +500 FT. AFTER 10-15 MINS, I REALIZED I WAS AT THE WRONG ALT AND DROPPED TO 4500 FT MSL. THE INCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY NOT THINKING -- POOR JUDGEMENT.
