Narrative:

Well, we got our taxi instruction to cross one of the runways (6R) and hold short of the other (runway 6L) on taxiway D. The copilot read the instructions back correct and we proceeded across the first runway. On our way across I remember something that we needed to do to set up the GPS approach and I told the copilot, and he proceeded to do it. I didn't tell him to do it, but he went ahead and started the task and I didn't think much of it at the time. I had it in the back of my mind we were cleared to cross both runways like every morning, and even just a few hours earlier that morning. As I started to cross the hold short lines something in the back of my mind said something is wrong. So I quickly asked the copilot if we were cleared to cross the parallel runway, and he said 'no.' I stepped on the brakes and reversed the engines and we stopped just short of the runway edge marking. We were past the hold short marking, but not on the runway itself. The tower controller then asked if we were on the runway and we replied 'we are past the hold short markings, but not on the runway.' then the controller asked our company DHC8 if they could get by us, they said they could and they taxied in front of us. The controller then told us to cross and contact ground control. We proceeded across the runway and to the deicing area and continued on with the rest of the day's schedule. In looking back on the situation, there were a lot of factors playing a part in the situation. The factors being lack of sleep, repetition, complacency, and distraction with other duties. All of these things played a part in this situation. Looking back on the situation, I know that I, the captain, should have been more alert when taxiing. Also, I should never get the other crew member involved with a task that would have his/her head and eyes inside the cockpit and not paying attention to what is going on outside the aircraft.

Title: A DCH6 CREW, TAXIING TO DEICING PAD AT PANC, CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE TO THE PARALLEL.

Narrative: WELL, WE GOT OUR TAXI INSTRUCTION TO CROSS ONE OF THE RWYS (6R) AND HOLD SHORT OF THE OTHER (RWY 6L) ON TXWY D. THE COPLT READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BACK CORRECT AND WE PROCEEDED ACROSS THE FIRST RWY. ON OUR WAY ACROSS I REMEMBER SOMETHING THAT WE NEEDED TO DO TO SET UP THE GPS APCH AND I TOLD THE COPLT, AND HE PROCEEDED TO DO IT. I DIDN'T TELL HIM TO DO IT, BUT HE WENT AHEAD AND STARTED THE TASK AND I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT AT THE TIME. I HAD IT IN THE BACK OF MY MIND WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS BOTH RWYS LIKE EVERY MORNING, AND EVEN JUST A FEW HRS EARLIER THAT MORNING. AS I STARTED TO CROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINES SOMETHING IN THE BACK OF MY MIND SAID SOMETHING IS WRONG. SO I QUICKLY ASKED THE COPLT IF WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS THE PARALLEL RWY, AND HE SAID 'NO.' I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND REVERSED THE ENGS AND WE STOPPED JUST SHORT OF THE RWY EDGE MARKING. WE WERE PAST THE HOLD SHORT MARKING, BUT NOT ON THE RWY ITSELF. THE TWR CTLR THEN ASKED IF WE WERE ON THE RWY AND WE REPLIED 'WE ARE PAST THE HOLD SHORT MARKINGS, BUT NOT ON THE RWY.' THEN THE CTLR ASKED OUR COMPANY DHC8 IF THEY COULD GET BY US, THEY SAID THEY COULD AND THEY TAXIED IN FRONT OF US. THE CTLR THEN TOLD US TO CROSS AND CONTACT GND CTL. WE PROCEEDED ACROSS THE RWY AND TO THE DEICING AREA AND CONTINUED ON WITH THE REST OF THE DAY'S SCHEDULE. IN LOOKING BACK ON THE SIT, THERE WERE A LOT OF FACTORS PLAYING A PART IN THE SIT. THE FACTORS BEING LACK OF SLEEP, REPETITION, COMPLACENCY, AND DISTR WITH OTHER DUTIES. ALL OF THESE THINGS PLAYED A PART IN THIS SIT. LOOKING BACK ON THE SIT, I KNOW THAT I, THE CAPT, SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE ALERT WHEN TAXIING. ALSO, I SHOULD NEVER GET THE OTHER CREW MEMBER INVOLVED WITH A TASK THAT WOULD HAVE HIS/HER HEAD AND EYES INSIDE THE COCKPIT AND NOT PAYING ATTN TO WHAT IS GOING ON OUTSIDE THE ACFT.
