Narrative:

Over the last yr or two flying out of bwi, I have had several conversations with other crewmembers about taxiway P at P1 and runway 4-22 and the possibilities of runway incursions. I have witnessed several 'near misses' and also incursions over the last few years. The latest commercial revision for the airport page at bwi lists this intersection as a 'hot spot.' my experience at bwi(I do almost all of my flying from that airport) is especially at night and wet, the intersection is difficult to see until you are right up on it. The taxiway line that is the easiest to see from the cockpit (as you taxi eastbound after landing runway 33L) is the line that takes you out on to runway 4-22. The intersection is very wide and because of this the elevated guard hold short lights are difficult to see and are not properly angled towards your field of view. (At least a couple of weeks ago they weren't). This is one intersection that the in-pavement hold short lights would certainly reduce if not eliminate the risk of incursion on to runway 4-22.

Title: MD80 CAPT RPTS A CONFUSING INTERSECTION AT BWI.

Narrative: OVER THE LAST YR OR TWO FLYING OUT OF BWI, I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS WITH OTHER CREWMEMBERS ABOUT TXWY P AT P1 AND RWY 4-22 AND THE POSSIBILITIES OF RWY INCURSIONS. I HAVE WITNESSED SEVERAL 'NEAR MISSES' AND ALSO INCURSIONS OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS. THE LATEST COMMERCIAL REVISION FOR THE ARPT PAGE AT BWI LISTS THIS INTERSECTION AS A 'HOT SPOT.' MY EXPERIENCE AT BWI(I DO ALMOST ALL OF MY FLYING FROM THAT ARPT) IS ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT AND WET, THE INTERSECTION IS DIFFICULT TO SEE UNTIL YOU ARE RIGHT UP ON IT. THE TXWY LINE THAT IS THE EASIEST TO SEE FROM THE COCKPIT (AS YOU TAXI EBOUND AFTER LNDG RWY 33L) IS THE LINE THAT TAKES YOU OUT ON TO RWY 4-22. THIS IS ONE INTERSECTION THAT THE IN-PAVEMENT HOLD SHORT LIGHTS WOULD CERTAINLY REDUCE IF NOT ELIMINATE THE RISK OF INCURSION ON TO RWY 4-22.
