Narrative:
On taxi into parking spot at burbank our left wing contacted parked airstairs. All ground equipment was parked outside mandatory clearance lines and required marshallers (3) were present. I was given the come ahead signal by local marshaller and both wing walkers were giving all clear signal. I felt the aircraft strike something and came to a stop. At that time the lead then signaled for an emergency stop. The problem was that we were to the left of the lead in line. I was unable to see the wingtips from the cockpit for clearance. Also the marshallers had given us the turn in signal and come straight ahead with no guidance for a turn to position us exactly on the centerline. As our taxi speed was very slow (only fairing damage to wingtip). I feel marshallers may have been inexperienced in their clearance responsibilities and how to correctly position us on centerline.

Title: MD80 CREW HIT PAX AIRSTAIRS WHILE BEING MARSHALLED TO THE GATE AT BUR.
Narrative: ON TAXI INTO PARKING SPOT AT BURBANK OUR L WING CONTACTED PARKED AIRSTAIRS. ALL GND EQUIP WAS PARKED OUTSIDE MANDATORY CLRNC LINES AND REQUIRED MARSHALLERS (3) WERE PRESENT. I WAS GIVEN THE COME AHEAD SIGNAL BY LCL MARSHALLER AND BOTH WING WALKERS WERE GIVING ALL CLR SIGNAL. I FELT THE ACFT STRIKE SOMETHING AND CAME TO A STOP. AT THAT TIME THE LEAD THEN SIGNALED FOR AN EMER STOP. THE PROB WAS THAT WE WERE TO THE L OF THE LEAD IN LINE. I WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE WINGTIPS FROM THE COCKPIT FOR CLRNC. ALSO THE MARSHALLERS HAD GIVEN US THE TURN IN SIGNAL AND COME STRAIGHT AHEAD WITH NO GUIDANCE FOR A TURN TO POS US EXACTLY ON THE CTRLINE. AS OUR TAXI SPD WAS VERY SLOW (ONLY FAIRING DAMAGE TO WINGTIP). I FEEL MARSHALLERS MAY HAVE BEEN INEXPERIENCED IN THEIR CLRNC RESPONSIBILITIES AND HOW TO CORRECTLY POS US ON CTRLINE.
