Experienced an unidentifiable vibration in the floor of the aircraft. Attempted to troubleshoot without success. Turned back to ZZZ. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the vibrations were felt throughout the cabin primarily in the floor and got progressively worse. The reporter said several systems were switched off to isolate the vibration, but without success and the decision was made to divert. The reporter stated on the ground maintenance found the aircraft cargo compartment vent fan had failed operation with the fan either unbalanced or rubbing the side of the case.

Title: A B767-300 IN CRUISE DIVERTED DUE TO UNIDENTIFIABLE VIBRATIONS FELT IN THE ENTIRE ACFT FLOOR, CAUSED BY A FAILED ACFT CARGO COMPARTMENT VENT FAN.

Narrative: EXPERIENCED AN UNIDENTIFIABLE VIBRATION IN THE FLOOR OF THE ACFT. ATTEMPTED TO TROUBLESHOOT WITHOUT SUCCESS. TURNED BACK TO ZZZ. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE VIBRATIONS WERE FELT THROUGHOUT THE CABIN PRIMARILY IN THE FLOOR AND GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE RPTR SAID SEVERAL SYSTEMS WERE SWITCHED OFF TO ISOLATE THE VIBRATION, BUT WITHOUT SUCCESS AND THE DECISION WAS MADE TO DIVERT. THE RPTR STATED ON THE GND MAINT FOUND THE ACFT CARGO COMPARTMENT VENT FAN HAD FAILED OPERATION WITH THE FAN EITHER UNBALANCED OR RUBBING THE SIDE OF THE CASE.
