Narrative:
With moderate turbulence we experienced excessive up and downdrafts on approach into lga, with airspeed fluctuations of +/-20 KTS. The approach was missed and when level at 3000 ft on a vector away from lga we experienced windshear which caused altdevs of +/-500 ft. Many aircraft in the area were reporting same problems, and conditions seemed to just 'pop up' without any warning. A diversion was made and a safe landing executed.
