Narrative:
This report is concerning an inadvertent slide deployment by our 'a' flight attendant on door 1L just prior to pushback. The jetway had already been removed from the aircraft and the gate agent had already left. There were luckily no injuries to any personnel. Prior to pushback and engine start, the ECAM showed 1L door was not armed. The captain made a brief PA and said only '1L.' we could hear the activity behind us as we waited for it to arm. The captain and myself were both punched up on flight interphone and the captain gave 1 chime and there was a brief discussion about trying to cycle it again. At that point, we could hear the 1L door unlock and begin to open. The 'C' flight attendant said 'wait, it's still armed' just as the slide blew. We were running late because of a last min aircraft swap the crew coming off said that 1L was difficult to arm and had been written up earlier that day. Later that evening in ZZZ1, the other crew said they had written it up and maintenance looked at it and was going to rerig the door on the overnight, so they wouldn't take a delay. Perhaps if maintenance had performed a more thorough fix when it was first reported it would have reduced the chances of this slide deployment.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN AIRBUS 320 PARKED ON GATE HAS ECAM WARNING 'DOOR 1L NOT ARMED.' CABIN ATTENDANT ATTEMPTED TO CYCLE DOOR AND DEPLOYED SLIDE.
Narrative: THIS RPT IS CONCERNING AN INADVERTENT SLIDE DEPLOYMENT BY OUR 'A' FLT ATTENDANT ON DOOR 1L JUST PRIOR TO PUSHBACK. THE JETWAY HAD ALREADY BEEN REMOVED FROM THE ACFT AND THE GATE AGENT HAD ALREADY LEFT. THERE WERE LUCKILY NO INJURIES TO ANY PERSONNEL. PRIOR TO PUSHBACK AND ENG START, THE ECAM SHOWED 1L DOOR WAS NOT ARMED. THE CAPT MADE A BRIEF PA AND SAID ONLY '1L.' WE COULD HEAR THE ACTIVITY BEHIND US AS WE WAITED FOR IT TO ARM. THE CAPT AND MYSELF WERE BOTH PUNCHED UP ON FLT INTERPHONE AND THE CAPT GAVE 1 CHIME AND THERE WAS A BRIEF DISCUSSION ABOUT TRYING TO CYCLE IT AGAIN. AT THAT POINT, WE COULD HEAR THE 1L DOOR UNLOCK AND BEGIN TO OPEN. THE 'C' FLT ATTENDANT SAID 'WAIT, IT'S STILL ARMED' JUST AS THE SLIDE BLEW. WE WERE RUNNING LATE BECAUSE OF A LAST MIN ACFT SWAP THE CREW COMING OFF SAID THAT 1L WAS DIFFICULT TO ARM AND HAD BEEN WRITTEN UP EARLIER THAT DAY. LATER THAT EVENING IN ZZZ1, THE OTHER CREW SAID THEY HAD WRITTEN IT UP AND MAINT LOOKED AT IT AND WAS GOING TO RERIG THE DOOR ON THE OVERNIGHT, SO THEY WOULDN'T TAKE A DELAY. PERHAPS IF MAINT HAD PERFORMED A MORE THOROUGH FIX WHEN IT WAS FIRST RPTED IT WOULD HAVE REDUCED THE CHANCES OF THIS SLIDE DEPLOYMENT.
