Narrative:
Found #2 brake assembly worn to limits on overnight maintenance. Removed brake part number air carrier X xxxxx. Installed air carrier X part number yyyyy on the service able brake assembly. I found the brake temperature probe electrical connector damaged. Swapped the probe from serviceable brake with the probe from the unserviceable brake, from xxxxx to yyyyy. I didn't realize that the brakes in stock were of 2 different part numbers. By swapping the temperature probes, I unknowingly unmoded the yyyyy brake assembly to xxxxx. The aircraft maintenance manuals, company maintenance alert bulletins and maintenance policy and procedures manuals make no reference to the difference in physical sync of the mode and unmode brake assembly temperature probes. No description of the differences between air carrier X part number xxxxx on air carrier X part number yyyyy. Brake assemblies are available to me as a line mechanic.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN AIRBUS 319 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT BRAKE TEMP PROBE INSTALLED IN #2 BRAKE ASSEMBLY.
Narrative: FOUND #2 BRAKE ASSEMBLY WORN TO LIMITS ON OVERNIGHT MAINT. REMOVED BRAKE PART NUMBER ACR X XXXXX. INSTALLED ACR X PART NUMBER YYYYY ON THE SVC ABLE BRAKE ASSEMBLY. I FOUND THE BRAKE TEMP PROBE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR DAMAGED. SWAPPED THE PROBE FROM SERVICEABLE BRAKE WITH THE PROBE FROM THE UNSERVICEABLE BRAKE, FROM XXXXX TO YYYYY. I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THE BRAKES IN STOCK WERE OF 2 DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS. BY SWAPPING THE TEMP PROBES, I UNKNOWINGLY UNMODED THE YYYYY BRAKE ASSEMBLY TO XXXXX. THE ACFT MAINT MANUALS, COMPANY MAINT ALERT BULLETINS AND MAINT POLICY AND PROCS MANUALS MAKE NO REF TO THE DIFFERENCE IN PHYSICAL SYNC OF THE MODE AND UNMODE BRAKE ASSEMBLY TEMP PROBES. NO DESCRIPTION OF THE DIFFERENCES BTWN ACR X PART NUMBER XXXXX ON ACR X PART NUMBER YYYYY. BRAKE ASSEMBLIES ARE AVAILABLE TO ME AS A LINE MECH.
