Narrative:
After a stabilized approach and an on speed landing in the touchdown zone, the first officer advised me that he could not get the power levers past the gate into the reverse range. The first officer is very experienced, so I chose to let him continue trying to achieve beta and reverse, while I simultaneously started to apply brake pressure and maintain directional control with the tiller. We stopped the aircraft with approximately 700 ft remaining. As we came to a stop, the first officer was able to get the levers past the detent into the reverse range. We were able to taxi to the gate, with no alarm to our passenger. Upon postflt inspection, we discovered that the #3 had a large hole -- a result of heavy braking, to allow us to stop on the 6300 ft runway. I wrote up the incident in the aircraft logbook and contacted our maintenance and dispatch department immediately. We also filed a company safety report and advised the chief pilot's office.

Title: A JETSTREAM 4100 ON LNDG WAS UNABLE TO PULL THE PWR LEVERS INTO REVERSE AND RESULTED IN HVY BRAKING, DAMAGING #3 MAIN TIRE.
Narrative: AFTER A STABILIZED APCH AND AN ON SPD LNDG IN THE TOUCHDOWN ZONE, THE FO ADVISED ME THAT HE COULD NOT GET THE PWR LEVERS PAST THE GATE INTO THE REVERSE RANGE. THE FO IS VERY EXPERIENCED, SO I CHOSE TO LET HIM CONTINUE TRYING TO ACHIEVE BETA AND REVERSE, WHILE I SIMULTANEOUSLY STARTED TO APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE AND MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CTL WITH THE TILLER. WE STOPPED THE ACFT WITH APPROX 700 FT REMAINING. AS WE CAME TO A STOP, THE FO WAS ABLE TO GET THE LEVERS PAST THE DETENT INTO THE REVERSE RANGE.
