Narrative:
Location: jfk. During climb out from jfk, landing gear retracted normally. After placing gear handle to 'off' position, left main landing gear extended, accompanied by amber gear light, amber doors light, gear disagreement and gear doors upper EICAS messages. We maintained a safe altitude and airspeed. Referenced our operating manual and contacted maintenance. They recommended cycling gear handle to 'up' position and 'off' position again. We accomplished this procedure and obtained normal gear indications. We confirmed our fuel status with dispatch and continued to san diego where we landed uneventfully. This incident was almost an exact duplicate of a previous write-up 2 days prior.
