Narrative:
Severe turbulence encounter. On approach to runway 18R, a cargo B727 reported severe turbulence on final. We then told approach we wanted a different runway, as did an MD80. The MD80 was sequenced ahead of us for runway 17C, and he was about 5 mi ahead of us. We were about 8 mi from the field when the MD80 reported severe turbulence. We initiated a go around based on that report, and encountered the severe turbulence ourselves shortly thereafter. Airspeed was absolutely uncontrollable. We climbed straight ahead to 3000 ft and flew south while we decided what we would try next. We heard other aircraft were getting in on runway 17C and they reported light chop below 2000 ft on the approach. We descended to 2000 ft and circled for runway 17C and landed without further incident. The captain recorded the severe turbulence encounter in the aircraft logbook.

Title: B757 CREW EXECUTED A MISSED APCH TO A RWY THAT OTHER ACFT HAD RPTED HAD SEVERE TURB AT DFW.
Narrative: SEVERE TURB ENCOUNTER. ON APCH TO RWY 18R, A CARGO B727 RPTED SEVERE TURB ON FINAL. WE THEN TOLD APCH WE WANTED A DIFFERENT RWY, AS DID AN MD80. THE MD80 WAS SEQUENCED AHEAD OF US FOR RWY 17C, AND HE WAS ABOUT 5 MI AHEAD OF US. WE WERE ABOUT 8 MI FROM THE FIELD WHEN THE MD80 RPTED SEVERE TURB. WE INITIATED A GAR BASED ON THAT RPT, AND ENCOUNTERED THE SEVERE TURB OURSELVES SHORTLY THEREAFTER. AIRSPD WAS ABSOLUTELY UNCTLABLE. WE CLBED STRAIGHT AHEAD TO 3000 FT AND FLEW S WHILE WE DECIDED WHAT WE WOULD TRY NEXT. WE HEARD OTHER ACFT WERE GETTING IN ON RWY 17C AND THEY RPTED LIGHT CHOP BELOW 2000 FT ON THE APCH. WE DSNDED TO 2000 FT AND CIRCLED FOR RWY 17C AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE CAPT RECORDED THE SEVERE TURB ENCOUNTER IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK.
