Narrative:
Given a vector towards final, approximately 050 degrees, the vector was directly at the cessna traffic! TRACON error. Almost immediate TCASII RA to climb, we were just 300 ft above and approaching crossing cessna. RA resulted in 800 ft climb. During RA, I advised ATC of climb. No response. After RA, I notified ATC that returning to 7000 ft. All normal RA procedures followed appropriately by PF.

Title: B777 CREW, ON APCH TO EWR, RESPONDED TO A CLB RA FROM TCASII.
Narrative: GIVEN A VECTOR TOWARDS FINAL, APPROX 050 DEGS, THE VECTOR WAS DIRECTLY AT THE CESSNA TFC! TRACON ERROR. ALMOST IMMEDIATE TCASII RA TO CLB, WE WERE JUST 300 FT ABOVE AND APCHING XING CESSNA. RA RESULTED IN 800 FT CLB. DURING RA, I ADVISED ATC OF CLB. NO RESPONSE. AFTER RA, I NOTIFIED ATC THAT RETURNING TO 7000 FT. ALL NORMAL RA PROCS FOLLOWED APPROPRIATELY BY PF.
